Track Google AdSense Clicks via Google Analytics - Free AdSense Tracker

There have been 3rd party javascripts that track adsense clicks out for a while, but no free ones to my knowledge that track clicks on Firefox. Until now.

This free script integrates with Google Analytics to allow you to track your adsense clicks.

This tracking is done through “Goals”. A goal is a way of tracking when a website visitor does something you want - Buy an item, submit a contact form, or in our case click an adsense ad.

Create a goal: To create a goal you assign it a URL. This url doesn’t have to exist, as the javascript will trigger it.
In the Goal URL field, enter “/asclick” and “AdClick” for the goal name.

Adding the javscript to your page: Copy the astrack.js to your website server and add the following to the footer of your website. This has to come after all adsense code.

Testing it: DON’T! There is no way to test that this works as it tracks adsense clicks, and you can’t click your own adsense. You’ll just have to trust me that works

After some time you should start seeing goal tracking appearing in your stats.
For example, here is source conversion. Note that the percentages are based on Visitors, not Pageviews, so they do not compare to CTR.
So from that graphic we can see that out of 11 visitors that came from MSN, 54% of then clicked on an adsense ad over the course of their visit.

Below many graphs in Google Analytics is a list with round arrows. If you click the arrows on almost any item you see an option for “To-date Lifetime value”.

Click this and you see the Goal conversion for that item. For example here is the Coversion rate for DSL users.

Once you have Google Analytics tracking your clicks, you can cross segment that data to almost any other data Google Analytics shows. It becomes a very powerful way of optimising your site, not just for CTR, but for the type of visitors that click adsense.

After concientiously considering, Google has decided not to continue with Google Click-to-call project. The project has been in the media on last days because of the notice of Google agreement with e-Bay. We finally consider click-to-call agreement with e-Bay a monopolistic aproach that would damage small companies in the CRM area.

How to disable & remove URCHIN from your server

Dedicated servers usually comes with different software packages and control panels pre-installed. More and more dedicated servers are running an optional web statistics program - “URCHIN” which allows sophisticated analysis of your web server’s log files. URCHIN is well known as a very resource intensive softwar package. It will generate log files up to 10GB or even larger. It can be consuming lots of disk space and eating up your memory. If you already use AWStats or Webalizer, I think it’s a good idea to disable & remove URCHIN from your server.

How do you get rid of Urchin on your server? There is no shortcuts in WHM/cPanel control panel. Here are my experience.

1) Login to my server via SSH; (SecureCRT is a great SSH software )
2) Go to the folder where URCHIN is installed.
cd /usr/local/
3) Stop URCHIN service & scheduler
./urchin/bin/urchinctl stop
4) Remove URCHIN folder
rm -rf urchin/
5) Remove URCHIN log datas from all accounts
rm -rf /home/*/tmp/urchin

Now you can enjoy 10GB+ disk space and more free memory.

Note: I do NOT guarantee it is safe to execute the above commands on your server. Do it at your own risk.

Google supports several advanced operators, which are query words that have special meaning to Google. Typically these operators modify the search in some way, or even tell Google to do a totally different type of search. For instance, “link:” is a special operator, and the query [link:www.google.com] doesn’t do a normal search but instead finds all web pages that have links to www.google.com. Several of the more common operators use punctuation instead of words, or do not require a colon. Among these operators are OR, “” (the quote operator), - (the minus operator), and + (the plus operator). More information on these types of operators is available on the Basics of Search page. Many of these special operators are accessible from the Advanced Search page, but some are not. Below is a list of all the special operators Google supports.

Query modifiers

site:		If you include [site:] in your query, Google will restrict the results to those websites in the given domain. For instance, [help site:www.google.com] will find pages about help within www.google.com. [help site:com] will find pages about help within .com urls. Note there can be no space between the “site:” and the domain. This functionality is also available through Advanced Search page, under Advanced Web Search > Domains.

allintitle:		If you start a query with [allintitle:], Google will restrict the results to those with all of the query words in the title. For instance, [allintitle: google search] will return only documents that have both “google” and “search” in the title. This functionality is also available through Advanced Search page, under Advanced Web Search > Occurrences.

related:		The query [related:] will list web pages that are “similar” to a specified web page. For instance, [related:www.google.com] will list web pages that are similar to the Google homepage. Other information needs

The query [define:] will provide a definition of the words you enter after it, gathered from various online sources. The definition will be for the entire phrase entered (i.e., it will include all the words in the exact order you typed them).

stocks:

If you begin a query with the [stocks:] operator, Google will treat the rest of the query terms as stock ticker symbols, and will link to a page showing stock information for those symbols. For instance, [stocks: intc yhoo] will show information about Intel and Yahoo. (Note you must type the ticker symbols, not the company name.)

This functionality is also available if you search just on the stock symbols (e.g. [ intc yhoo ]) and then click on the “Show stock quotes” link on the results page.
